Classes in first aid and wilderness survival, for our community & for our schools

Injuries to the Upper Extremities - The Shoulder to the Hand

In this class we will learn how to make and splint the different parts of an arm.  We will learn how to make a splint using a piece of cardboard and duct tape.  The class will explain enough about the anatomy of the arm and shoulder so that we understand what needs to be immobilized for each different type of fracture or dislocation.  Other areas covered are how to take a pulse and how to check for nerve damage on an injured limb.   The class is structured with a short lecture at the beginning, followed by practice of the basic skills.  Once the skills are mastered we will simulate real-life accidental injuries to practice our skills.  It is our goal to teach everyone CPR and AED skills so we will do a short practice of these skills as well.

There is no prior first aid skills or knowledge necessary for this class.  go back
