Injuries to the lower extremities
When your friend’s leg is injured while playing soccer, should you help him stand up and hobble off the field?Or, should he stay very still. If you are hiking and your friend sprains his ankle, can you make a splint. You will learn how to determine if your injured friend can be moved or must remain still. You will learn the anatomy of the hips and legs and you will learn how to stabilize a broken leg.You will know how to read and understand the injured person’s vital signs so that you can make good decisions.Should I hike out for help? Can my friend hike out too?The class is structured with a short lecture at the beginning, followed by practice of the basic skills.Once the skills are mastered we will simulate real-life accidental injuries to practice our skills. It is our goal to teach everyone CPR and AED skills so we will do a short practice of these skills as well.
