Backboarding and Administering Oxygen - How to Handle a Serious Injury

In this class we will present some high level training.  The proper movement of a person with a suspected spinal injury will be presented and practiced.  Extrication from difficult locations and unconscious/head trauma is addressed.  The different types of shock are presented and discussed.  Oxygen administration is presented with discussion of when it should be used.  Training covers femur (thigh) fractures and the application of traction splints.   The class is structured with a short lecture at the beginning, followed by practice of the basic skills. In this class all practice will be on dummies.  Once the skills are mastered we will simulate real-life accidental injuries to practice our skills.  It is our goal to teach everyone CPR and AED skills so we will do a short practice of these skills as well.
